Summer fruits par excellence, it seems they were already appreciated four thousand years ago by the Chinese emperors. Coming from Central Asia, they arrive on the shores of the Mediterranean after the conquests of Alexander the Great. In Egypt they were sacred fruits to Harpocrates, god of silence and childhood, so much so that even today the cheeks of children are compared to these fruits, for their velvety softness. After a period of oblivion, the Arabs reintroduced its cultivation, not only for gastronomic purposes but also for pharmacological purposes. Due to their beauty and coloring, these fruits have often been depicted in painting, such as by Caravaggio, Renoir, Arcimboldo and Monet.
