Help us celebrate gopher tortoises on #GopherTortoiseDay, and every day! These remarkable creatures are the unsung heroes of their ecosystems, creating burrows that serve as safe havens for indigo snakes, burrowing owls and gopher frogs. Through our Forestland Stewards Partnership with National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, we are proud to support programs to “head-start” these tortoises, where young tortoises are nurtured in safe environments until they are strong enough to thrive in the longleaf pine forests. These efforts not only boost the survival rates of gopher tortoises, but also help ensure healthy, robust forests for all. Join us in celebrating gopher tortoises and the ecosystems they support.
